A$AP Rocky's 'Don't Be Dumb' Album Faces Disappointing Sales Projections
Earlier this week, there was buzz surrounding A$AP Rocky's new release, Don't Be Dumb, with initial projections estimating a whopping 200,000 units sold in its first week. The premise was straightforward: a press release highlighted an impressive 130,000 vinyls sold, translating directly into guaranteed physical sales. Add to that an estimated 70,000 to 90,000 units from streaming, and it seemed like a sure bet for a chart-topping debut.
However, a recent report from Kurrco has thrown a wrench in the optimistic forecasts. Instead of the anticipated figures, only 45,000 of that 130K vinyl count are being recognized this week. The new projection now anticipates a total of around 119,000 units sold, with approximately 74,000 of those coming from streaming and digital platforms.
While these numbers are commendable, they won't secure Rocky the coveted number one spot, positioning him instead to make a solid debut at number two on the charts. Although it's still a successful start for the artist, the figures certainly fall short of the expectations set earlier in the week.
Don't Be Dumb Vinyl Sales
The strategy behind Don't Be Dumb's vinyl sales was a clever move to create hype for the album. With unique album covers and a dedicated fanbase, it's evident Rocky knows how to market his music effectively. While 130K vinyl sales sound impressive, the reason only 45K count towards the first week's sales is due to shipping delays. Once those vinyls reach their destinations, we can expect to see a boost in the second and third-week sales for Rocky.
