The vibrant streets of Cape Town burst with life on January 5, 2026, as residents and members of Kaapse Klopse groups came together for the annual Tweede Nuwe Jaar, now known as the Hollywoodbets Cape Town Street Parade.

Traditionally held on January 2, this cultural festivity saw beloved figures joining the Ashwin Willemse Orient Community Development Troupe as they proudly marched through Green Point.

Social media influencer Shukr Hartzenberg captured the joyous occasion in a TikTok video, showcasing the colorful uniforms of the group, adorned in striking green, purple, and white. Among the festive participants were Eastern Cape rapper Early B, fellow rapper YoungstaCPT, popular content creators Uncle Cedric and Ghalieka Isaacs, and radio personality Peadon Smith.

Shukr beautifully conveyed the spirit of the event in his post, stating:

"Celebrating our culture, heritage and tradition in one of the most iconic ways. Danko to all the Lions for making this a memorable experience for all. Let's keep promoting positivity in the New Year!"

While the parade was a success, challenges loomed earlier this year as the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival Association voiced serious concerns over 'cultural erasure' in their legal battle with the City of Cape Town. The Association protested on January 3, where they presented a three-page memorandum to Ricardo Mackenzie, the MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, who acknowledged their concerns and expressed a willingness to engage with the City.
