The tension surrounding Limpopo's controversial musician, Shebeshxt, has intensified as the Polokwane High Court has ruled against his bail appeal.
On Friday, January 9, 2026, Shebeshxt's hopes for freedom were dashed when the court upheld a previous ruling by the Polokwane Magistrates' Court, denying him bail. The rapper, whose real name is Lehlohonolo Katlego Chauke, was not present during the proceedings.
His legal team had filed an urgent bail application on December 31, 2025, seeking to overturn the initial decision made by Senior Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi. While Advocate Isaac Mokgopo, one of Shebeshxt's lawyers, dismissed claims that the rapper was desperately fighting to be released, the National Prosecuting Authority confirmed that an appeal was in motion.
Why was Shebeshxt's bail appeal dismissed?
In a matter that took less than five minutes, Acting Judge Natalie Burnet announced her decision, affirming the earlier ruling without elaborating on the details. The courtroom was filled with support from fellow artists, including Kaycherlow, Hitboss, and Naqua, as well as Shebeshxt's girlfriend, Kholofelo Chuene.

A video from Limpopo Chronicle revealed that Judge Burnet quickly concluded the appeal without a detailed explanation:
“In light of the fact that the accused is not presently present, I’m not going to read the entire judgment into the record. I hereby make the following order: the appeal is dismissed,”

What's next for Shebeshxt?
As the dust settles, Shebeshxt is now preparing for his next appearance at the Polokwane Magistrates' Court where he faces an array of serious charges including three counts of attempted murder, negligent discharge of a firearm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, multiple counts of assault, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
