Curro Holdings is celebrating a remarkable achievement with its Class of 2025, who have achieved a remarkable 99.40% pass rate in the latest IEB matric examinations. Out of 2,694 students who sat for the exams, over 72% scored an average of 60% or higher, and an impressive 11% of learners achieved an A average across their subjects!
Curro's CEO, Cobus Loubser, extended heartfelt congratulations to the learners and their dedicated teachers for these stellar outcomes. He emphasized that this performance illustrates the effectiveness of personalised learning and robust support systems in instilling curiosity, resilience, and confidence in students.
Among the standout achievers, 303 students earned A averages, and 22 graduates were recognized on the IEB Outstanding Achievement list for ranking in the top 5% across six or more subjects, which included the highest honors in Life Orientation. These exceptional students also secured placements on the Commendable Achievement list, showcasing their hard work and dedication.
Curro's commitment to excellence is evident in the 161 Top 1% placements across various subjects, providing learners with excellent foundations for their future studies and careers. Furthermore, Curro's students are also being prepared for the National Senior Certificate examinations, with results due to be released on January 13, 2026.
National Matric Results Hit New Heights
South Africa has much to celebrate, as Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube announced that the 2025 matric pass rate reached a record-breaking 88%, surpassing last year’s 87.3%. Over 900,000 students participated in this year’s exams across 6,000 centres, marking it as the largest matric class to date.
Notably, all 75 education districts in the country achieved pass rates above 80%, indicating substantial educational progress nationwide. Almost half of the successful candidates received bachelor’s passes, with many more qualifying for diplomas and higher certificates, paving the way for enhanced university and career prospects.
The provinces shone brightly, with KwaZulu-Natal leading the pack at a 90.6% pass rate, closely followed by Free State and Gauteng. The Independent Examination Board (IEB) also posted an impressive pass rate of 98.31%, reflecting near stability year-over-year.
Minister Gwarube commended everyone involved for these exceptional results, stating it reflects the hard work and optimism for future advancements in education.
