Drake has faced his share of legal scrapes, but he just scored a significant victory! Last November, the chart-topping artist found himself in a legal tussle with Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti. Galimberti claimed that Drake directly infringed on his work in the music video for "What Did I Miss?" released in July, particularly pointing out striking similarities between the gun imagery in the video and his project, "The Ameriguns."
The case took an even more bizarre turn when the lawsuit suggested that Drake attempted to connect his allegations of misconduct, which were fired at him by Kendrick Lamar during their infamous feud, to those faced by Galimberti. Galimberti was also under scrutiny following a controversial Balenciaga ad featuring children alongside teddy bears dressed in S&M outfits.
"Given Kendrick Lamar’s lyrics directed as calling Defendant Graham a pedophile and Defendant Graham’s now dismissed defamation lawsuit, on information and belief, Defendant Graham sought to imply that he, like Plaintiff, would be publicly exonerated," the lawsuit alleged.
When Is Drake Dropping ICEMAN?
But in an exciting twist, AllHipHop's Grouchy Greg Watkins has reported that the lawsuit has now been dismissed! Importantly, the case was dropped “with prejudice,” meaning Galimberti can’t refile this complaint in the future—making it a clear win for Drake.
Although it remains unclear whether the two parties reached some sort of settlement behind the scenes, this development is certainly a relief for the rapper. As anticipation builds for his forthcoming ninth studio album, ICEMAN, news of this legal victory could not have come at a better time. While an official release date has yet to be announced, fans are buzzing with excitement, eager to see what Drake has in store next.
