A delivery driver has struck a chord with Mzansi after stepping forward to encourage matric learners who were left discouraged by their results.

As thousands of young people across the country processed disappointment following the release of the Class of 2025 matric outcomes, his message came as a reminder that academic setbacks do not cancel future success.

Every January, matric results season exposes the harsh emotional divide between celebration and despair. While some learners proudly share their distinctions and university offers, many others quietly wrestle with lower grades and higher certificate passes.

For these learners, the pressure from their families and peers can be crushing, often leaving them believing they have failed beyond repair. It is against this backdrop that one man chose to speak hope.

The clip that sparked the conversation was posted on TikTok on 10 January 2026. In the video, the driver challenged the idea that repeating is pointless. He breaks down the stigma attached to upgrading matric results, noting that rewriting subjects or starting again is far more common than people admit.

Shared by the TikToker @dbe_eng, the video also shows the delivery driver offering reassurance, which he noted was based on personal experience. Drawing from his lived journey, he highlighted that upgrading matric marks is not something to be ashamed of but rather a practical and common step forward. He noted that many people who are now degree holders, including those with qualifications in demanding fields like electrical engineering, once failed or barely passed Matric.

How learners can rewrite matric

He unpacked the different paths available to learners who want to improve their results. Some schools allow learners to rewrite only specific subjects, particularly mathematics and science. Others require learners to repeat the entire matric year. The driver shares his belief that starting from scratch can be empowering, as learners often return with greater focus and determination.
