Exciting Casting News: Ryan Hurst to Portray Kratos in God of War Series

Prime Video has officially announced that Ryan Hurst, known for his role in Sons of Anarchy, will take on the iconic role of Kratos in the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of God of War. Hurst is no stranger to the franchise, having portrayed Thor in God of War Ragnarok, for which he earned a BAFTA Award nomination.

The streaming service shared more insights about the upcoming series, which is set to closely follow the narratives of the last two installments of the video game franchise. The plot centers on Kratos and his son Atreus as they embark on a poignant quest to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. In this journey, Kratos aims to teach Atreus how to be a better god, while Atreus endeavors to help his father become a better human.

Hurst is the first actor confirmed for the God of War series, leaving audiences curious about who will be cast as Atreus and other pivotal characters. Besides his role in Sons of Anarchy, Hurst has appeared in various other Hollywood projects, including Remember the Titans, showcasing his extensive career.

The series is reportedly set to commence filming in Vancouver this March, signaling that more casting announcements and production details may be revealed in the near future.

Developer Santa Monica Studio expressed enthusiasm regarding Hurst's casting, saying, "We’re excited to see his take on Kratos as he joins the legendary ranks of T.C. Carson and Christopher Judge, who have each contributed significantly to this character’s legacy."

Ronald D. Moore, the showrunner from Battlestar Galactica fame, is spearheading the project as the executive producer and writer. The series is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions.

Frederick E.O. Toye, known for his work on The Boys and Fallout, will direct the first two episodes. While there is no confirmed release date yet, Prime Video is also producing a live-action Tomb Raider series featuring Sophie Turner.

As for the God of War video game series, fans can anticipate future installments, though no new titles have been officially announced.
