In the world of hip-hop, opinions can be as diverse as the music itself. Recently, Jamil "Mal" Clay stirred the pot on his New Rory & Mal podcast, branding the legendary Andre 3000 as the "most overrated rapper of all time." With a bold statement like that, you can bet the conversation didn't end there!
Mal argued, "The most overrated rapper to me, Andre 3000. Only because he's never put out a solo rap project, and he gets GOAT status. You have to have a solo rap album." This declaration led to a heated back-and-forth with his co-host, Rory, who defended Andre's incredible lyrical contributions.
As Mal reflected on his earlier admiration for 3000, he said, "I fell victim at one point to having 3000 in my top five rappers of all time. But then I thought, that's not fair to someone who has a solo career and has put out amazing albums and bars, while 3000 has no solo rap project." His logic is hard to dismiss!
Outkast Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction
While he may not rank Andre in his top five, one thing is certain—Andre 3000 is still celebrated within the music community. Just last November, Outkast received the prestigious honor of being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. During the ceremony, the 50-year-old rapper delivered an emotional speech, reminiscing about his journey from humble beginnings.
Reflecting on his path, he shared, "Jack [White] said something about little rooms. We started in a little room. Great things start in little rooms." With gratitude, he acknowledged Rico Wade's pivotal role in their success, stating, "We’re just so happy that Rico Wade saw something in us. He gave us an opportunity to come [and record], and all the sacrifices that were made around us to help us get to this place."
