Naledi Aphiwe has started 2026 on an international high after earning a significant nomination at the Ninth All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held in Lagos, Nigeria.
The 18-year-old rising star was nominated alongside collaborator Mawelele in the Best African Duo or Group in R&B category, marking another major milestone in her fast-growing career.
Sharing the category with some of the continent’s most celebrated names, including Nigeria’s Kunmie, Morocco’s Manal and eventual winner Rema, Naledi described the moment as both humbling and inspiring.
“This nomination is an indication of great things to come this year. It shows that hard work will never go unnoticed,” she said.
“Seeing my name next to international artists means there is a place for me in the world and in other African countries.”
For Naledi, the recognition represents far more than just an award nod.
Her journey from a township classroom to continental stages continues to resonate with fans, positioning her as one of South Africa’s most promising young exports.
Despite her age, she has already carved out an impressive résumé that many artists spend years chasing.
Her momentum has been building steadily. In 2025, Naledi scored nominations for Best African Song and Best R&B Song at the Metro FM Music Awards for Romeo & Juliet, her collaboration with Mawelele.
The previous year saw her clinch the Afro Pop Artist of the Year title at the Basadi Music Awards, further solidifying her place in the industry.
