Nasty C has shared insights into the making of his recently released music video for Head Up 2.0, which features the Soweto Gospel Choir. Speaking about Head Up’s origins, Nasty C revealed that the track had been in development for several years.
“Fun fact, I made this song about 5 years ago, maybe 6, and it was just a chorus at that time and that was enough for me. It did exactly what I wanted it to do for me,” he explained. According to the rapper, the initial idea for the song was concise, with the chorus serving as the core of the track for several years before it was fully developed.
He continued to describe the process of completing the song, noting that the final version only came together recently. “I didn’t finish it until about 8 months ago or something like that,” Nasty C said. This extended timeline, he added, allowed him to incorporate personal experiences into the song’s verses.
“I think the time it took for me to finish that song kinda played in my favour, because I went through a lot of stuff, there were a lot of ups and a lot of downs and it gave me a story to tell in a verse,” he continued. This reflection suggests that the emotional journey Nasty C experienced over several years influenced the song’s lyrical content and depth.
The newly released Head Up 2.0 features collaborations from the Soweto Gospel Choir, adding a rich, choral dimension to the track. The music video, which accompanies the release, visually emphasizes the song’s themes and complements the lyrical storytelling Nasty C highlighted in his interview.
With Head Up, Nasty C has shared both a long-term personal project and a collaborative musical effort. The song’s journey, from a simple chorus conceived years ago to a full-fledged track featured on FREE, offers listeners insight into his creative process and the time it can take for a musical idea to fully come to life.
