Amazon Games has announced that New World, their MMORPG launched in 2021, will permanently close on January 31, 2027. This announcement follows substantial layoffs that occurred just a few months prior.
Initially, when the job cuts were revealed, it was indicated on New World’s website that its upcoming 10th season, 'Nighthaven,' would be the last. However, it has now been confirmed that this season will continue until the game's servers are officially shut down. As of now, the game has been removed from online shops, meaning only players who have previously purchased it can partake before the closure next year.
The statement also included a farewell message from the remaining developers: "We want to thank the players for your dedication and passion. We are grateful for the time spent crafting the world of Aeternum with you. Together we built something special. While we are saddened to say goodbye, we're honored that we were able to share so much with the community."
Amid this news, there appears to be a glimmer of hope thanks to COO Alistair McFarlane from Facepunch Studios, known for creating Rust. McFarlane has made a noteworthy offer for the game, stating, "25m, final offer" on Twitter, complemented by his sentiment that "Games should never die." This suggests a serious interest in reviving the beleaguered title.
Moreover, Simon Collins-Laflamme from Hypixel Games added to the conversation, offering assistance to anyone looking for strategies to acquire canceled games, drawing from his successful purchase of Hytale last year.
