This year marks a significant milestone in gaming anniversaries, with major franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Metroid turning 40, while both Persona and Pokémon celebrate their 30th anniversaries. Exciting announcements for all these series are expected in the coming months, and we turn our attention to Persona.
Recently, Atlus launched an official website for the 30th anniversary of Persona. Although the site is sparse at present, visitors can find stunning new artwork from character designer Shigenori Soejima, surprising many fans, since it acknowledges the earlier Persona titles.
The first reveal tied to this anniversary is Fitness Boxing Persona 5. While not an announcement of Persona 6, it offers something special for series fans, featuring characters like Joker and Ryuji in a fitness challenge. The Fitness Boxing games, developed by Imagineer, are known for their exclusivity to Nintendo Switch, and this installment is likely to follow suit.
Notably, the website hints at further announcements scheduled for January 8th. Though expectations should be tempered—this could lead to merchandise, concert news, or something more substantial like a Persona 4 Revival or even Persona 6—we remain hopeful. A console port of gacha game Persona 5: The Phantom X might also be revealed during the celebrations.
As anticipation builds, let's hope the next announcement brings big news for the Persona franchise. Until then, I’ll just be over here humming “You’ll never see it coming.”
