A wave of confusion swept over social media recently when a TikTok video captured a young protester outside the US Embassy in Pretoria, holding a placard upside down. The video, shared by user @willempet, quickly went viral, stirring up a heated debate about the state of political awareness among the youth.

In the clip, the protester, clad in a South African Communist Party (SACP) t-shirt, was questioned about her reasons for being at the embassy. When the interviewer asked if she was aware of who they were fighting for, she stumbled through her response, mentioning a supposed prisoner without realizing her surroundings.

Misunderstanding leads to viral fame

“I think it's this one,” she responded confidently, indicating the embassy building as if it were a prison. This innocent blunder left many viewers shocked and questioning how she ended up at the protest. The exchange has left a lot of people wondering about the recruitment tactics being used to mobilize the youth for political demonstrations they may not fully understand.

Social Media Erupts with Reactions

The response to the video has been a mix of humor, disbelief, and frustration. Viewers flooded the comments section, wondering how someone could be involved in such a significant protest without understanding its context. Some expressed concern that young people should be in school rather than attending demonstrations they don't comprehend, especially since protests are occurring while many Venezuelans celebrate the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

User @Clement Chalera quipped: "She is not wrong, if you think about it. Maduro is in that building. The moment you are inside that building, you are in America."
User @sugannaidoo6 chimed in: "You can't fight our government, but you want to fight the USA."
User @emanon remarked: "The youth of the country should go to school and not be protesting."
User @morra questioned, "I can't understand why the Venezuelan people are glad about the arrest, yet some other people, not from that country, are protesting."
User @BUFFY lamented: "It's so bad. That's why we are where we are. SA is going down the drain!"
User @༺ℜΞiLY_ℑ༻ humorously added: "Whilst the Venezuelans are celebrating 👏😂."
