Snoop Dogg had the crowd roaring and then gasping at the Golden Globes last Sunday, as he presented the first-ever award for Best Podcast. Breaking the ice with his classic track, “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” he lightened the mood with a cheeky remark about being a little too high for the occasion.
“Need y’all to loosen up a little bit. This is the Double G’s — the Double G’s is the Golden Globes,” Snoop declared. Then, in true Snoop style, he added, “And you’re with the D-O-Double-G, so make sure you enjoy yourself. Don’t be no stiff biff!” But before he could finish, he jokingly exclaimed, “I'm high as a motherf*cker right now. Y'all had me here too damn long,” which led to an immediate cut on the broadcast.
Fans quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their laughter over the incident. One user quipped, "That’s like censoring Bob Ross for painting happy little trees," while another chimed in, “Man’s just speaking the truth, no filter needed.” However, not everyone was amused, as some criticized the rapper's antics, questioning if he was just perpetuating stereotypes.
Golden Globes Winners
The highlight of the evening for Snoop was presenting Best Podcast, which went to Amy Poehler for her show, Good Hang. Upon receiving the award, she joked, “This is exactly how I pictured it: Snoop giving me the award.” She expressed her gratitude, saying, “I don’t know about awards shows, but when they get it right, it makes sense. Thank you so much for this.” Other nominees included Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, The Mel Robbins Podcast, Smartless, and Up First.
As for the other accolades of the night, Teyana Taylor snagged Best Female Supporting Actor, Motion Picture for her role in One Battle After Another, while Timothée Chalamet took home Best Male Actor, Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for his role in Marty Supreme.
