Usimamane Takes Center Stage in Apple Music’s Rap Life Africa January Feature

Apple Music’s Rap Life Radio, hosted by Ebro Darden and featuring Africa Now Radio host Nandi Madida, showcases Durban-born rapper Usimamane this month. They discuss his new track, “Racks,” and his latest project, G-Wagon Music: Baby Tai.

Originating from Umlazi, Durban, Usimamane has quickly established himself as one of South Africa's most intriguing voices within the new wave of hip hop. His music, primarily in isiZulu, seamlessly marries authentic storytelling with melodic trap elements, reflecting the struggles and aspirations of life in townships.

“Racks” is part of G-Wagon Music: Baby Tai, marking the start of a trilogy Usimamane plans to unveil through 2026. After a relatively quiet 2025, this project serves as a clear signal of his intent to evolve. The EP focuses solely on Usimamane, showcasing his unique voice and vision without any guest features.

Usimamane Explores the Hustle Behind “Racks”

“‘Racks’ is all about money,” Usimamane shares with Apple Music. “I’m releasing it early this year to inspire everyone striving for success — it's an anthem for go-getters. My conversations with Rick Ross last January were centered on hard work and earning money. This year, I’ll put in more effort than ever. It's all about stacking racks.”

The appearance on the cover of Apple Music’s Rap Life Africa represents a significant milestone in Usimamane’s career, positioning him among the continent’s most promising hip-hop talents. The platform is recognized as a critical supporter of African rap, often serving as a rite of passage for artists ready to make their mark. For Usimamane, this feature aligns perfectly with his focus and ambitions just as he redefines his path.

As 2026 progresses, Usimamane’s direction seems to be firmly rooted in his core message. The concepts of hustle, growth, and self-made success are no longer mere elements of his music; they are the foundation of his forthcoming journey. With the backing of Apple Music’s Rap Life Africa, Usimamane is poised for a transformative year ahead.
