Adidas Becomes Official Kit Sponsor for SAFA National Teams

Adidas Partners with SAFA for Official Kit Sponsorship

Adidas has officially partnered with the South African Football Association (SAFA) as the kit sponsor for all national teams over the next three years. This new agreement will see Adidas take over from the French brand Le Coq Sportif, whose contract concludes at the end of this year.

During the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, Bafana Bafana will still don the Le Coq Sportif kit as the tournament occurs from December to January in Morocco. The new Adidas kit will debut during the March FIFA international break, leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Bafana Bafana secured their spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after their victory against Rwanda, clinching the top position in Group C.

“The South African Football Association (SAFA) and Adidas are proud to announce a landmark three-year partnership that will see the global sports brand become the official technical sponsor of South Africa’s national football teams,” SAFA stated.

This partnership represents a significant homecoming for Adidas, rekindling the unity and pride that captivated fans during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. “Fifteen years later, that same sense of belief and belonging returns as South Africa is prepared to make its imprint on the global stage.”

“With Bafana Bafana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Banyana Banyana’s growth in women's football, Adidas and SAFA are collaborating to celebrate a new era of South African excellence, rallying under the motto: ‘You Got This.’

SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao remarked, “This partnership transcends mere sponsorship; it’s a return to our shared values of pride, resilience, and performance. Adidas has been an integral part of our football narrative, motivating South Africans everywhere to harness their potential.”

“This alliance enhances our reputation among global football entities, as we actively participate in FIFA and CAF tournaments, supported by a brand committed to innovation, performance, and style for contemporary sports organizations,” Monyepao added.

Tom Brown, Senior Brand Director of Adidas South Africa, stated, “Football has the transformative ability to unite and uplift. Adidas boasts a proud football legacy, consistently delivering high-performance products for premier teams and athletes globally. We are excited to stand with Bafana Bafana, Banyana Banyana, and other SAFA teams as they represent South Africa on the international stage.”

Adidas previously collaborated with SAFA from 1998 to 2010, during which Bafana Bafana wore Adidas kits in two FIFA World Cups — in 2002 (South Korea and Japan) and 2010 when South Africa hosted the event. Notably, the last three FIFA World Cup champions, including Argentina, the recent trophy holders in Qatar 2022, have all sported Adidas kits.
