AmaZulu advanced to the final of the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup after securing a 2–1 victory over Njampela at the Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium on Sunday.
On a rain-soaked day in Ulundi, with a waterlogged pitch and conditions nearly unplayable, Usuthu managed to navigate the situation effectively, scoring twice in rapid succession during the first half.
Despite the challenging conditions, with heavy rainfall occurring overnight and continuing into the day, the tournament proceeded as planned.
Njampela, the defending champions from last year after defeating Royal AM, took an early lead as Sbongiseni Mdluli found the net.
AmaZulu quickly responded, leveling the score with a goal from Tebogo Mashego.
Usuthu took the lead for the first time when Elmo Kambindu, the Namibian striker overcoming injury struggles this season, scored.
This match also marked Liam Bern’s debut under AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane, following the successful withdrawal of Cape Town Spurs’ appeal at the SAFA Appeals Board.
Njampela had a chance to equalize in the 76th minute with a penalty, but Lungelo Vilani's shot sailed over the crossbar.
Goalkeeper Olwethu Mzimela emerged as the hero for AmaZulu, making several impressive saves towards the end of the match to secure the victory.
AmaZulu will now face the winner of the semi-final match between Richards Bay and Eswatini’s Nsingizini Hotspurs. The final is scheduled to kick off at 16:00 at the venue named in honor of struggle icon Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who passed away in 2023.
