Arc Raiders is shaping up to be an engaging online multiplayer experience, but developer Embark Studios wants players to know the game is primarily focused on PvE dynamics. Rather than enhancing player-versus-player mechanics, the studio emphasizes cooperation against NPC enemies instead.
During a recent interview, CEO Patrick Söderlund clarified that while players can engage in combat against each other, the emphasis lies in the exploratory and cooperative elements of the game. As such, fans shouldn't expect additional PvP features like leaderboards to be added in the future.
Creative Direction and Game Philosophy
Söderlund stated, “The PvP experience should create tension within the gameplay, but it is not the foundation upon which Arc Raiders is built.” This indicates a clear direction for the game's development, placing collaborative gameplay at the forefront while still allowing for occasional PvP interactions.
