Arthur Zwane Honors Kaizer Motaung on His 81st Birthday

Arthur Zwane expresses deep appreciation for Kaizer Chiefs' founder on his 81st birthday

Kaizer Motaung, the esteemed founder and chairman of Kaizer Chiefs, celebrates his 81st birthday, and Arthur Zwane articulates his profound gratitude towards him. Motaung's influence is deeply embedded in the realm of South African football, symbolizing vision, leadership, and excellence.

At the age of 25, Motaung, alongside several founding members, launched Kaizer Chiefs in 1970. This initiative cultivated a club that has transcended sporting confines to become a cultural symbol of pride for millions across South Africa and beyond.

In an official statement, the club remarked: “Kaizer Chiefs evolved into more than a football team; it became a movement — a venue where talent coalesces with opportunity, combining flair with discipline, and nurturing dreams.”

Moreover, Motaung's impact is not confined to national borders, as he has garnered international recognition, including the esteemed Order of Ikhamanga and a rightful place in the South African Hall of Fame.

Zwane, a former player from 2000 to 2010 who made 252 appearances, reflects on Motaung's pivotal role in his career. He stated, “I always get goosebumps when I talk about the chairman because I owe my current position to his influence.”

Though Zwane was initially appointed Chiefs’ head coach in May 2022, he transitioned to the role of assistant coach to Molefi Ntseki at the onset of the 2023/24 season after finishing fifth in the preceding campaign. Since then, Chiefs have struggled to break into the top eight of the league.

Notably, under his guidance, Chiefs reached the CAF Champions League final in the 2020/21 season and became the first South African team to defeat Wydad Casablanca in Morocco. However, his unexpected replacement by Stuart Baxter ahead of the final match against Al Ahly remains a controversial decision.

Concluding his tribute, Zwane extended heartfelt wishes to Motaung, emphasizing, “God must bless him. The game still benefits from his visionary insights, and I wish him continued health and many more years.”
