Stellenbosch Coach Steve Barker Pursues New Contract for Defender Thabo Moloisane
As Thabo Moloisane's current contract approaches its expiration, Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker is working diligently to finalize a new agreement for the standout defender. Moloisane has garnered significant interest from various clubs, notably leading contenders Orlando Pirates.
A Star Player’s Busy Schedule
Barker acknowledged that progress in resolving the contract situation has been hampered by Moloisane's packed schedule. His recent participation with the Bafana Bafana during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, combined with Stellenbosch’s deep run in the MTN8 tournament, has complicated the timing for negotiations.
After Stellenbosch's recent match against AmaZulu at Princess Magogo Stadium, Barker reiterated the club’s commitment to retaining Moloisane.
“He has been a key player for us,” Barker stated. “It has just been difficult to find calmness in the season. Hopefully, in our next window, we can find a way to sort it out. I would love him to stay with the team going forward.”
Moloisane’s Impact at Stellies
Moloisane, now 26 years old, transitioned to Stellenbosch from Maritzburg United at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. He has quickly become an essential part of the team’s defense, contributing to their notable success in the Carling Knockout Cup and appearing in a total of 92 matches across competitions, with four goals and three assists to his name.
Fans of Stellenbosch are understandably anxious about the possibility of Moloisane following the route of former teammate Sihle Nduli, who departed for Orlando Pirates as a free agent after his contract lapsed. The club is keen to avoid such a scenario and secure the long-term future of this key player.
