Baroka Football Club Announces New Head Coach and Assistant
Baroka has officially announced the appointment of Tlisane Motaung as the club's new head coach, with Matsemela Thoka returning as his assistant.
Reports emerged on Tuesday morning confirming Thoka’s return to Baroka following the dismissal of Dan Malesela.
Malesela's exit was triggered by a disappointing defeat to the University of Pretoria in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last weekend.
Notably, Motaung was previously the head coach of AmaTuks, who faced Baroka in the 2023/24 PSL promotion and relegation playoffs.
The new coaching duo steps into a challenging situation, as Baroka sits second from the bottom in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, having accumulated only four points from seven matches, tied with last-placed Midlands Wanderers.
“Baroka Football Club is proud to announce the appointment of Matsemela Thoka as assistant coach and Tlisane Motaung as head coach of the club until the end of the season,” the club stated in an official announcement on Tuesday.
The league regulations dictate that the bottom two teams in the Motsepe Foundation Championship face automatic relegation at the end of the season, placing immense pressure on Motaung and Thoka to steer Baroka clear of relegation and ensure they avoid a return to amateur football in the upcoming season.
