The Rugby World Cup champions, the Springboks, are keen not to underestimate Italy as they prepare to face them at Allianz Stadium in Turin this Saturday. After Italy's notable 26-19 victory over Australia, assistant coach Tony Brown acknowledged the growth of the Azzurri as a formidable team.
The Springboks strengthened their position at the top of the world rankings following their recent match against New Zealand, and despite Italy's lower ranking, both Brown and loose forward Marco van Staden anticipate a challenging encounter against the home team.
The team arrived in Italy via Bologna on Sunday and launched their preparations with a field training session on Monday.
“The match against France was monumental and heavily anticipated,” said Brown. “Now that it’s behind us, our full focus is on Italy.”
Brown noted, “Their performance against Australia showcased their potential as a tough opponent. The home crowd will only heighten the challenge for us.”
Discussing Italy's strengths, Brown stated, “They play a physical game and differ tactically from France. With their ability to move the ball, they can create various threats. Their improvement over the past couple of years has made them a team to watch.”
“Italy demonstrated their capability against Australia, especially at the breakdown, where they gained several turnovers. They can exploit spaces effectively, and we are prepared for a formidable contest. If our preparations falter, we will face significant danger on Saturday,” Brown added.
