Castle Lager Rallies Support for Bafana Bafana Ahead of AFCON and World Cup

Castle Lager – the taste that’s stood the test of time – and Bafana Bafana – re-affirmed that they are ready to bring cheers to South Africans – both on and off the football pitch.

Castle Lager, a steadfast supporter of Bafana Bafana since 1992, is once again gearing up to back ‘The Boys’ as they prepare for two major tournaments: the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 in Morocco this December, followed by the FIFA World Cup 2026 commencing next June.

Castle Lager finds itself in a unique role for both competitions, serving not only as a long-standing partner of Bafana Bafana, but also as an official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Together with fans across the nation, Castle Lager is set to lead the support for the team on both continental and global stages.

“We have been with Bafana Bafana for more than 30 years,” stated Thomas Lawrence, brand manager for Castle Lager.

He added, “The partnership has survived highs and lows and has remained unbroken. We recently renewed our partnership for another four years and we are eager for the next chapter.”

“This current team is exciting,” continued Lawrence. “They fill stadiums and unite South Africans. We are optimistic about a successful AFCON and World Cup. Our message to South Africans is to Rally Your Squad and get behind the boys.”

With exhilarating football on the way, South Africans, alongside the enduring taste of Castle Lager, will be welcomed to a celebratory experience anticipated since 2010, beginning in North Africa.

Lawrence elaborated, “As the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2026, we have a unique opportunity to bring South Africans closer to the team, with Castle Lager facilitating this connection for fans.”

The 2010 FIFA World Cup opening match remains a historic moment for South African football. Maintaining the thrilling atmosphere of the first game on June 11, 2010, FNB Stadium buzzed with excitement as Bafana Bafana showcased their talent against Mexico.

In that match's 54th minute, the iconic Siphiwe Tshabalala scored a sensational goal, forever etching that moment into the hearts of South Africans and demonstrating the nation’s capacity to host global events.

Castle Lager's unwavering support throughout past World Cups, including 1998 and 2002, has been crucial to Bafana Bafana. The first-ever goal scored by South Africa in a World Cup came from Benni McCarthy against Denmark in 1998, marking a significant achievement in the nation's football history.

Success in continental tournaments has often paved the way for participation in the World Cup, proven by South Africa's feats in the Africa Cup of Nations in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Recently, under coach Hugo Broos, Bafana Bafana has reclaimed its status among Africa's elite teams, finishing third at the 34th Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast. With the FIFA World Cup approaching, the AFCON 2025 serves as an opportunity to seek a long-coveted continental title and build momentum for global competition.

The quest for the African championship starts on December 22 at Marrakech Stadium against Angola, followed by a match against Egypt in Agadir before facing off against Zimbabwe back in Marrakech.

Successful navigation of these matches could spark belief in South Africans about potential triumphs ahead, with Castle Lager prepared to commemorating the journey alongside the fans.

Castle Lager will host viewing parties nationwide for the Africa Cup of Nations, inviting supporters to gather, watch the game with a beer in hand, and proudly display their South African colors. Additionally, Castle Lager will provide fortunate fans with the chance to travel to Morocco and witness Bafana play live.
