Spinda in Pokémon Go was among the many 'missing' Gen 3 Pokémon until it debuted in the summer of 2018.
Spinda is notably unique within the series. Although this Normal-Type, rabbit-like Pokémon may not excel in battle or evolve into anything remarkable, it boasts a pattern that's different with every capture—boasting over four billion possibilities in the main games.
However, in Pokémon Go, players can hunt for nine distinct Spinda forms.
How to Catch Spinda in January 2026
Spinda is particularly intriguing as it's the first Pokémon introduced solely through the Field Research feature.
To catch Spinda, you must first complete a specific Field Research task. This month, the quest involves making Five Great Curveball Throws in a Row with a reward of either Spinda Form 6 or 7. This season will have three Spinda forms available.
Once you have the task, focus on landing that Curveball. For tips, our Curveballs page can assist you, but briefly, you need to spin the ball properly and hit the circle as it closes. Waiting until after an attack can enhance your success rate.
If you're having difficulty, try capturing a Legendary Pokémon during a raid, as they typically feature larger hit circles.
After completing the task, Spinda will be available as a reward. Unlike other Field Research rewards, Spinda won’t flee, allowing you ample time to catch it. Consider using a Pinap Berry to maximize your Candy gain.
Where to Find Spinda Field Research
With numerous Field Research tasks available, locating Spinda’s quest may take some time. If you spin a PokéStop and receive a Field Research task that doesn’t include Spinda, you can delete it and spin for another in hopes of finding the right one.
Note that each PokéStop has a daily assigned Field Research task for all players. If you can find out what those tasks are from friends or fellow Pokémon Go players, it could save you time.
Although Spinda quests have become rarer, you have a whole month to capture each form, enhancing your chances of success.

List of Pokémon Go Spinda Forms
While the main games boast billions of Spinda forms due to unique pattern generation, Pokémon Go simplifies things with just nine forms.
Each in-game season features a rotating selection of forms, offering players more time to catch each one, as opposed to the previous method which introduced a new form every month.
Furthermore, since June 2019, any newly released Spinda form could be shiny.
At the moment, if you missed any forms, keep an eye out for their return, or trade with friends.
As time progresses, more Spinda forms may become available—there's room for 20 in the Pokédex! The timeline and method of release remains uncertain, though.
For now, anticipate forms to rotate through Field Research tasks every month or two.
