Celtic Parts Ways with Manager Wilfried Nancy After Just Eight Matches

Celtic swiftly decided to part ways with manager Wilfried Nancy on Monday, concluding the 48-year-old's disappointing tenure after only 33 days in charge.

Nancy, who previously managed Columbus Crew, had inked a two-and-a-half year contract with the Scottish champions but was dismissed following a crushing 3-1 defeat to rivals Rangers, marking six defeats in eight matches.

He succeeded interim boss Martin O'Neill, who had led the team to victory in seven of his eight games, and Nancy's departure comes amid the club's first stretch of four straight losses since 1978.

With Nancy's exit, attention now shifts to his potential successors, with Martin O'Neill emerging as the frontrunner, holding early odds of 4/7 from Paddy Power as of Monday afternoon.

Coming in second is former Celtic winger Shaun Maloney, now serving as assistant interim manager, priced at 10/3.

Following them in the betting is former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, who led the club to the Scottish Premiership titles in 2021/22 and 2022/23, with odds set at 11/2.

Not far behind is former Leeds and Spurs striker Robbie Keane, currently coaching Ferencvaros, at 17/2, and Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna at 9/1.

Other candidates include Cardiff City's Brian Barry-Murphy, also at 9/1, while Scott Brown, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Lee Carsley, and Craig Bellamy all sit at 12/1.

Whomever the club chooses, they are expected to have a more profound understanding of Scottish football than Nancy, who claimed last month, "I know Scottish football. I know the way it is. I come from France, I come from Europe. I was close to signing for Carlisle when I was a player. I know exactly where I am."
