The middle of Overwatch 2 Season 20 has arrived, and it brings an exciting array of new modes, loot, and collectibles. Among the highlights is the Showdown Shuffle event, taking place from January 13-26, which introduces a dynamic twist by frequently changing the character players control.
In Showdown Shuffle, participants will be locked into a specific role but will experience hero swaps based on achieving milestones for kills, assists, or even upon elimination. This design encourages players to explore different heroes and adapt their strategies in real-time. The mode supports 5v5 battles in Control, Hybrid, Escort, Push, and Flashpoint formats, with match modifiers that evolve throughout the gameplay for unpredictable results.
As part of the Season’s offerings, the Assault mode makes a comeback in a Quick Play Hacked event, running from today until January 11, allowing players to revisit classic maps like Temple of Anubis, Hanamura, and Volskaya Industries. This launch is particularly poignant as 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Overwatch.
Additionally, from January 22 to 25, players can participate in Junkrat's Loot Hunt, providing a weekend dedicated to pursuing rewards and earning loot boxes without any match progress resets—leading to a potential gain of up to nine loot boxes.
For fans of cosmetics, Doomfist is set to receive a striking Mythic Magma Titan skin that channels 'blazing energy through sleek streetwear.' The skin features four upgrade tiers that players can explore, enhancing their experience with new gauntlets, color variations, and customized sound effects for Doomfist's abilities.
Cosmic Owl Skins are also launching for heroes Widowmaker, Lúcio, and Reinhardt, timed to coincide with live esports moments during Season 20. Players can look forward to new collections in the shop: the Borealis Collection available until January 19 offers a chilly makeover for heroes like Mercy, Lifeweaver, and Sojourn, while the Heist Collection runs from January 13 to 26 featuring gritty designs for Roadhog, Reaper, and Ash.
Looking ahead, Season 20 will host Drives from January 30 to February 4, allowing players to earn exclusive rewards while progressing their ranks. Blizzard has assured players that initial wins and losses will be forgiving, scaling up in challenge as players work to increase their Drive scores across Core Competitive and Stadium modes.
However, before this exciting phase, a competitive reset will take place. Hence, players are encouraged to finish strong to secure their rewards, earning accolades, Galactic skins, and Competitive Points.
