The Blues will face Brentford on Saturday as Liam Rosenior embarks on his first Premier League match as head coach.
Rosenior’s journey so far features a convincing 5-1 victory over Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup, followed by a narrow 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in the League Cup semi-finals.
With Chelsea looking to secure a win against their London rivals and boost their prospects for a top-four finish, fans are eager to know if Cole Palmer will be on the pitch.
Cole Palmer Injury Status Ahead of Chelsea vs. Brentford
Rosenior confirmed that Palmer is dealing with a thigh strain and was unable to participate in the recent match against Arsenal.
Although he missed the squad for that game, there is hope that he may be available for the clash on Saturday.
“This game came too early for him, hopefully he’ll be able to train on Friday,” Rosenior mentioned in a post-match press briefing. “He has a minor strain in his thigh. If we play someone with a minor strain in January, it could lead to a six-week absence. I cannot afford to lose Cole Palmer for that long.”
As Rosenior weighs the decision on whether to field Palmer against Brentford, Chelsea also has a Champions League game against Pafos on Wednesday and a Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace soon after.
Rosenior expressed his enthusiasm about working with Palmer when he returns to fitness, noting his exceptional talent. “Cole is a special talent, similar to Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and others. My role is to familiarize myself with him and to bring out the best in him,” Rosenior shared.
The head coach also highlighted Palmer’s age and potential, stating, “He’s just 23 and already possesses world-class ability. There were moments of brilliance in his play against Fulham that showcased his talent. I can’t wait to have more regular sessions with him.”
Concerning Palmer’s injury, Rosenior added, “I’ve had fruitful conversations with both Cole and the medical team. Given the demanding schedule with eight matches in four weeks, it would be unwise to risk any player at this stage.”
