Chelsea's owners, BlueCo, have appointed Liam Rosenior as the head coach, bringing him in from Strasbourg to succeed Enzo Maresca. Rosenior has signed a long-term contract but faces the urgent task of improving Chelsea’s fortunes for the 2025-26 season.
As the coaching changes unfold, several players are finding their opportunities shifting, which could pave the way for them to rejoin the first team.
Chelsea's Boss Plans Discussion with Sterling
Raheem Sterling, a 31-year-old winger from Wembley, joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022 yet has struggled to find his place in the squad, featuring in only 59 Premier League matches. After a disappointing loan at Arsenal last season, he is currently training separately from his teammates.
With a new manager at the helm, both Sterling and defender Axel Disasi may find a potential path back into the team. Rosenior expressed his intentions, stating, “I will have conversations with them,” ahead of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal.
“Raheem's had an outstanding career. I've got huge respect for him. Axel is someone I've really, really liked as a player for a long time,” he added. He emphasized the need for discussions with both players as he sorts through his priorities.
Sterling’s last competitive appearance was in May when he participated in the final Premier League match of the season. Since joining Chelsea, Sterling has earned just five caps as a national player.
Despite the challenges, Rosenior may consider options like selling or loaning Sterling, who has attracted interest from Serie A champions Napoli, though a surprising return to Chelsea could be imminent.
