Kaizer Chiefs have been handed a tough draw in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Amakhosi, who have reached the group stages of the Confederation Cup for the first time since the tournament was rebranded in 2004, will compete against Zamalek, ZESCO United, and Al Masry in Group D.
Notably, when Mamelodi Sundowns clinched the CAF Champions League title in 2016, they faced ZESCO United in the semi-finals before ultimately defeating Zamalek in the final.
Last season, Stellenbosch FC progressed to the Confederation Cup semi-finals after eliminating Zamalek in the quarter-finals, a result that led to the dismissal of former Nigeria coach José Peseiro.
Steve Barker’s Stellenbosch squad, who were eliminated in the semi-finals by Simba SC from Tanzania last season, have also found out their opponents for this year's tournament.
They will play in Group C alongside AS Otoho from Congo Brazzaville, Singida Black Stars of Tanzania, and CR Belouizdad from Algeria.
The last South African side to reach the Confederation Cup final was Orlando Pirates during the 2021/22 season, when they fell to Moroccan side RS Berkane in a penalty shootout in Nigeria.
The CAF Confederation Cup group stage matches are set to commence later this November.
