Chiefs Edge Out Kabuscorp in Thrilling CAF Showdown

In a nail-biting encounter at the FNB Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs secured their spot in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after edging out Angolan giants Kabuscorp 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

The match ended 1-0 in favor of Chiefs, but the aggregate score was level at 1-1, necessitating the shootout to determine the winner.

Amakhosi started strong, creating numerous scoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes, with Pule Mmodi and Glody Lilepo both having promising chances.

Despite their dominance, they struggled to find the breakthrough until Lilepo scored a crucial goal in the 40th minute, capitalizing on a rebound from Dillan Solomons’ shot.

In the second half, Chiefs’ attacking momentum waned, prompting the coaching staff to introduce Thabo Cele and Flavio Da Silva in an effort to bolster their offense.

The duo’s impact was almost immediate, with Silva narrowly missing a chance in the 63rd minute.

As the clock ticked down, Chiefs continued to push for a second goal, making strategic substitutions, including the introduction of Gaston Sirino for Mduduzi Shabalala and Reeve Frosler for Solomons.

However, despite their best efforts, they were unable to find the winner, sending the match to penalties.

The penalty shootout proved to be a tense affair, but ultimately, Chiefs’ composure and determination paid off as they emerged victorious 5-4.

With this win, Amakhosi advance to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Now, they will shift their focus to the Betway Premiership, where they will host AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday, seeking their first league win since the international break.
