Kaizer Chiefs Assistant Coach Cedric Kaze Highlights Importance of Siwelele Match
Kaizer Chiefs' assistant coach, Cedric Kaze, emphasized the significance of their midweek match against Siwelele as essential preparation for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round tie against AS Simba on Sunday.
Taking place at FNB Stadium on Wednesday, the Chiefs are eager to gain momentum before facing Simba.
In recent outings, the Amakhosi have secured just one win from their last seven matches across all competitions, a penalty shootout victory over Kabuscorp following a comeback from a first-leg deficit in Angola.
Their last win in regular time occurred on August 30 against Golden Arrows, where Flavio da Silva marked his debut with a goal.
Kaze remarked, “Every team that plays against Kaizer Chiefs feels it’s a moment of their lives to showcase themselves. Our players know this — the competition is always intense. This week is crucial for us as a club, especially with the Siwelele game leading into another significant match on Sunday.”
“Careful squad management will be essential, possibly involving rotation to maintain our performance, considering the challenging match in the DRC that tested us physically and mentally, as well as affecting players’ health,” he added.
In the first leg against Simba, which ended in a goalless draw, Chiefs missed a potentially game-winning chance when Ashley du Preez failed to convert in the dying moments.
Kaze continued: “Having returned from a tough journey, we need to approach Wednesday's game with fresh legs and fresh minds to keep up our intensity. Our focus is also on Sunday’s vital match, but we have the squad depth and quality to handle both. Motivation is key — we must win every duel, fight for every ball, and seek those three points.”
The ensuing match against AS Simba will take place at Dobsonville Stadium, with progression to the group stages of the Confederation Cup at stake.
