Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that ten players will be unavailable for selection when they host Siwelele in the Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
The players sidelined through injury are Thabiso Monyane, George Matlou, Paseka Mako, Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Etiosa Ighodaro, Given Msimango, Lebohang Maboe, Bontle Molefe, and Rushwin Dortley.
Several of the new signings — including Maboe, Chislett, Shinga, and Ighodaro — are yet to make their debuts for the club this season, while Mako and Monyane, both recruited from Orlando Pirates, have already featured for Amakhosi.
Ahead of the encounter against Siwelele, the club confirmed the extensive injury list in an official statement:
“Injury Update: Matlou, Monyane, Chislett, Mako, Molefe, Msimango, Dortley, Maboe, Ighodaro, Shinga,” said Chiefs.
Despite the setbacks, Chiefs—currently fourth in the Betway Premiership with 15 points from eight matches—offered some encouraging news regarding player recoveries.
“Despite these setbacks, there’s a silver lining. The squad is seeing a wave of recoveries that could bolster the team in the coming games. Lebohang Maboe, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Nkanyiso Shinga are edging closer to full match fitness, offering the coaching staff a welcome selection dilemma.”
Chiefs are coming off a goalless draw against AS Simba of DR Congo in the CAF Confederation Cup second-round preliminary tie on Saturday.
They will host the Congolese side again this coming weekend at Dobsonville Stadium, where a win will secure their place in the group stages of the competition.
