Manchester City might be facing the possible loss of their influential captain Bernardo Silva this month, as indicated by an Italian football insider and ex-Premier League manager.
Silva has been a crucial part of Manchester City for the past nine seasons and has recently taken on the captaincy under long-serving manager Pep Guardiola.
However, former West Ham striker and Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio has suggested that Silva could be considering a move soon.
Bernardo Silva Linked with Italian Club in Fresh Exit Rumour
Di Canio mentioned that Cesc Fabregas' club, Como, could be a potential destination for Silva. He commented, "Like other top players who are no longer very young, he could come to our league," suggesting that Silva's agency, Gestifute, led by super agent Jorge Mendes, has been exploring options for a transition to Italy.
Di Canio expressed, "I didn’t necessarily say Napoli," when asked to clarify potential clubs, hinting at a team that plays possession football, reminiscent of Manchester City's style but possibly even more unusual.
The northern Italian club is currently sitting sixth in the Serie A standings and is owned by the Djarum Group, which reportedly possesses a €40 billion fortune, granting Como significant financial prowess.
Como's rise has been remarkable, climbing from Serie D in 2019 to finishing 10th in the top flight last season, and under Fabregas' leadership, they are now aiming for European qualification.
Di Canio went on to assert, "Como can sign anyone. Anyone," celebrating their ability to recruit and develop talent seamlessly. Following his comments, he playfully apologized to Silva's agent Mendes, saying, "Jorge, Jorge, forgive me - but this is Italy and I had to say it!"
It is widely speculated that Como might have the means to lure Silva away from Manchester City, especially as he approaches his 32nd birthday and contemplates a new chapter after achieving remarkable success at East Manchester.
