Crystal Palace has successfully warded off interest from a Serie A club for one of their essential players.
This comes on the heels of the Eagles selling their captain, Marc Guehi, to Manchester City for an initial £20m.
Following this transfer, manager Oliver Glasner announced plans to depart Palace at the end of the season, adding to the turmoil for the club this January.
Serie A Club Withdraws Interest in £35m Crystal Palace Star
Further complicating matters, Palace is still recovering from the sale of FA Cup-winning attacker Eberechi Eze to Arsenal last summer.
With speculation swirling around another potential departure from Selhurst Park, the London club seemed to have priced off Italian suitors.
According to reports from The Athletic, Juventus has shifted their focus away from striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has scored 16 and 14 goals in his last two Premier League seasons, tallying eight goals this season so far.
The report indicates that Juventus was eyeing a fee just below £35m, including expected agent fees, which was deemed too hefty given Mateta’s age.
As a result, they have turned their attention to Fenerbahce's Youssef En-Nesyri, who is also being considered by Everton.
While Mateta was reportedly interested in the move to Juventus, contract discussions weren't anticipated to be problematic, but the potential transfer has now stalled.
Fans of Crystal Palace are likely relieved about Juventus' withdrawal from the chase, as the club aims to rebuild after losing several key players, including Eze and Guehi, along with the managerial change.
Mateta's presence will be crucial as the team looks to regroup and build a competitive squad for the future.
His valuation stands at €40m, according to Transfermarkt.
