DMX Estate Rejects Unauthorized Tribute Event: A Battle for Legacy

The estate of the iconic rapper Earl “DMX” Simmons is standing firm against an upcoming tribute event that seeks to ordain him as a minister. In an exclusive statement, the DMX Estate clarified that they do not sanction the ceremony.

Set for Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Foster Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, the event aims to honor DMX's spiritual legacy. However, the estate has emphasized that they are not involved in this initiative.

“The upcoming ordination of Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons is not an Estate-sanctioned event,”

states the DMX Estate. “While we appreciate third-party efforts to honor Earl in this way, neither the Foster Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church nor Bishop Imhotep are among the representatives of the church with whom he had close ties.”

The ceremony is being organized by the Gospel Cultural Center and is framed as a symbolic gesture rather than a formal ecclesiastical appointment, yet the estate expresses concerns about boundaries. Celebrating DMX’s faith is welcomed, but doing so without proper approval could misrepresent his legacy.

Bishop Dr. Osiris Imhotep, associated with the event, describes it as an acknowledgment of DMX’s strong expression of faith, referencing the rapper's deep relationship with prayer and spiritual reflection.

DMX Estate Clarifies The Event Is Not A Family-Approved Ordination

In addition to this tribute controversy, the estate has been vigilant in protecting DMX's legacy. They recently responded to an auction of rare items believed to belong to the late rapper, including handwritten lyrics and unreleased recordings. The auction did not receive the estate's approval, prompting harsh criticism.

In a statement, representatives expressed their surprise and disappointment over the auction, reiterating that it was unauthorized. They are not only dedicated to preserving DMX’s memory but are also prepared to take legal action as necessary to defend his legacy.

The DMX Estate remains adamant about not endorsing any official religious title in his name, emphasizing that any symbolic tribute must align with their vision and respect DMX's wishes.
