Du Preez Tackles Goal-Scoring Pressure at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs forward, Ashley Du Preez, has revealed the need to convert more chances amid the club’s increased forward options this season.

Du Preez, who’s now in his fourth season at Amakhosi, finds himself goalless in four league games this season, as the Soweto giants aim to kickstart their league campaign with a win against AmaZulu on Wednesday.

Chiefs have only scored seven goals in their opening seven games of the Betway Premiership season, which has raised questions from the Chiefs faithful and neutrals alike.

Du Preez, who boasts the ability to play across the forward line, could be counted amongst those responsible for uninspiring showing in front of goal, as he shares this responsibility with the likes of Khanyisa Mayo, Flavio Silva, and Etiosa Ighodaro, amongst others.

“So, my point of view is looking at my games, even past seasons, is that I’ve now been creating chances, and for me, it’s just that composure in me when I’m in that final third, you know,” said Du Preez on what he needs to improve on.

The former Stellenbosch forward also discussed the benefits of playing with experienced strikers like Mayo and Silva, and the potential combinations upfront.

“Like I said, we have a lot of players up front, strikers, the likes of Mayo and Silva, they’re good, they’re big strikers. So my role in that position, like you play on the left, I play number nine, depends on where the coach wants me on the day,” said Du Preez.

“Playing with Mayo, Duba, and Silva – those strikers, they can keep the ball, even Tashreeq Morris is huge and strong,” added the 28-year-old forward.

Du Preez will be hoping those combinations bear fruit as Amakhosi look to climb up the log standings and put an end to their two-game winless run domestically.
