World of Warcraft enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating the introduction of communal Guild Halls, and now, it seems that wish is about to come true. Blizzard has provided insights into the exciting new housing features that are in development.
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, key members of the WoW development team, including Blizzard VP Holly Longdale and senior game director Ion Hazzikostas, shared their vision for the future of housing within the game.
One of the standout highlights of the upcoming housing features is the confirmed addition of Guild Halls. Principal designer Jesse Kurlancheek expressed that these spaces will be available to players relatively quickly, although they will not be included in the upcoming Midnight pre-patch set for January 20.
While Kurlancheek didn’t reveal specific details about how Guild Halls will function, they promise to be a customizable shared space for guild members. Alongside this, Blizzard is also planning to implement co-decorating capabilities, allowing players to collaborate on home decor—a feature that could be particularly helpful for those less skilled in interior design. Couples playing WoW will also be able to share ownership of their homes.
Additional housing enhancements on the horizon include "exterior" rooms that provide sunlight and outdoor views while inside, larger medium-sized home exteriors, new decor options, and more visible plot boundaries. Future plans also consider interactive housing objects and even the ability to let pets and mounts roam within a player’s home.
Moreover, Blizzard is exploring various other housing concepts, including basements for homes, support for communal spaces, and expansions into new neighborhoods that go beyond those themed around Stormwind or Orgrimmar.
The current early-access housing feature is available for players who preordered the upcoming Midnight expansion. The complete housing system, inclusive of community events and options for Night Elf and Blood Elf exterior styles, will debut on January 20 with the Midnight pre-patch. This update will not only enhance player housing but will also introduce significant changes to the transmog system and set the stage for new player-made add-ons.
The full Midnight expansion is anticipated to launch on March 2, with overhauls to the long-standing Blood Elf zones and the introduction of new dungeons, areas, and raids.
