Jason Momoa is set to reprise his role in A Minecraft Movie 2 and has recently shared some intriguing insights during his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. He revealed that production is anticipated to kick off at the end of April and that he found the script to be exceptionally humorous.
Momoa expressed his enthusiasm by stating, "The script is even better. It's so good. I was laughing out loud. I haven't laughed out loud in a very long time at a script." He noted that while he found the original movie's script perplexing, the sequel brought him genuine laughter.
The first A Minecraft Movie, which premiered in 2025, grossed over $950 million worldwide, making the announcement of a sequel unsurprising. Officially confirmed in October 2025, Warner Bros. scheduled its release for July 23, 2027. This date falls just a few months after the anticipated live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, ensuring a vibrant period for video game adaptations.
Original director Jared Hess returns to helm and co-write the sequel. Many of the original cast members, such as Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen, are expected to reprise their roles, with new additions to the ensemble likely being announced.
Hess previously conveyed to Deadline that he anticipates a "fun" experience crafting a sequel, emphasizing the vastness of the Minecraft universe that allows for numerous narrative possibilities. He remarked, "There were so many things that we didn't tap into that we wanted to. I would have a blast doing the sequel... the fans seem to be going wild for it."
Speculation suggests that the sequel could pivot around the character Alex, who was hinted at during the first film's end credits.
