Spoilers for this week's episode of Fallout to follow.
Ring a ding ding! Another week, another episode of Fallout. Last week’s episode was notable for our heroes Lucy (Ella Purnell) and Cooper (Walton Goggins) arriving at the iconic strip from Fallout: New Vegas. They expected to find Lucy’s father, Hank (Kyle Maclachlan), but instead faced a terrifying trio of Deathclaws, one of Fallout’s most notorious foes. Meanwhile, Norm (Moisés Arias) and the Vault-Tec junior executives from Vault 31 were traversing the Los Angeles wasteland in search of Vault-Tec’s headquarters. With tension bubbling and critical setups underway, let's explore this week's journey in the Mojave wasteland.
The episode starts with Lucy and Cooper confronting the Deathclaws, realizing they are surrounded. Cooper wisely suggests they should hide and escape, devising a plan using grenades as a distraction to evade the deadly creatures. Once safe, they make their way to the bustling neighborhood of Freeside.
In Freeside, a thriving area in the Mojave, Cooper opens up to Lucy about his motivation for finding Hank. He recounts the fate of his wife Barbara (Frances Turner) and daughter Janey, frozen in cryosleep by Vault-Tec in upper management vaults. He believes if he locates Hank, he might discover the vault housing his family. As Lucy battles her Buffout addiction, Cooper suggests she procure Addictol from a general store while he settles into a bar to reflect on the changes in his own life since family separation.
In a flashback to the pre-war era, Cooper, Barbara, and Hank are at the airport, where Hank is tasked with delivering a critical briefcase for Vault-Tec. Cooper reaches out to Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury) via a payphone, who offers him poison to assassinate Robert House (Rafi Silver). Yet, Cooper insists he’ll achieve his goals without bloodshed.
As they arrive in Vegas, they witness the chaos of protests against RobCo industries. Cooper's heroic instinct kicks in when he helps a woman, a local congresswoman, who recognizes him. This act leads to their separation inside the casino, where a mysterious encounter with Mr. House takes place. Within the luxurious Lucky 38 hotel, Cooper learns the real identity of Robert House, revealing layers of deceit that have persisted for years.
In the present, Hank ambushes a snake oil salesman (Jon Daly) who arrives in New Vegas, confirming Barbara and Janey's location in cryo tubes within the Vault-Tec vault. Using a mind control device, Hank gains the salesman’s compliance. Meanwhile, Norm and his team stumble upon Vault-Tec headquarters, where they unearth shocking truths about vault operations, leading to violence when Norm is attacked during his investigation.
Back in Freeside, Lucy desperately seeks Addictol but resorts to theft when it's out of reach, inadvertently killing a man in self-defense during the act. This dark turn shatters her as she grapples with the impact of her actions.
Back in Pre-War Vegas, Mr. House reveals he has long been observing Cooper and expounds on his plans for the future of Vegas, linking it inexorably to the Deathclaw. Unbeknownst to House, Cooper makes his exit without the Cold Fusion he sought. As events escalate, Norm suffocates in his investigation and Lucy unexpectedly reunites with Cooper, who makes a chilling choice to leverage her as bait to save his family, resulting in a thematic climax filled with twists and consequences.
This episode of Fallout expertly interwove individual narratives that began as parallel paths, transforming into a cohesive storyline filled with dramatic reveals and a deeper understanding of the series’ stakes as it heads toward the season's thrilling closer.
