Final Fantasy 7 Remake Update Prepares for Switch 2 and Xbox Launch

Are you excited for Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S? If you haven't already tried out the demo for these platforms, a new update from Square Enix might heighten your anticipation for the adventures of Cloud and his friends beyond the PlayStation and PC realms. The company has announced that on Thursday, January 22, 2026, a patch will be released for the PS5 and PC versions, introducing features that will align existing versions with the upcoming new platform versions of the game.

This update includes enhancements like "Streamlined Progression," which allows players to maintain full HP and MP, as well as the ability to deal a maximum of 9,999 damage. Boosters will also enable players to toggle full HP, full MP, full Limit gauge, and maximum damage dealt, all of which can be managed individually or as a collective set.

For those looking to replay the story prior to the launch of Part 3, this update makes it effortless. It's still unclear if these 'boosters' will impact trophy unlocks on PS5, which could simplify Platinum clean-ups for trophy hunters.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi previously mentioned, "I feel that the way people enjoy content has become more flexible these days. Video streaming platforms have changed expectations, and players want similar options in gaming, allowing a tailored experience based on their interest and available time." He emphasized that the Streamlined Progression feature is designed to provide easy access to the game's story.

While this update for PS5 and PC was anticipated, the timing was previously uncertain. It’s commendable that Square Enix is ensuring similar features are available for previous customers and not just for those on the new platforms.

Moreover, it has been confirmed that the entire trilogy will be available on Xbox and Switch 2, along with PlayStation 5 and PC, so players can embark on their Midgar journey with all the latest enhancements. In related news, Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida hinted at potential Switch 2 support for the latest title in the franchise.
