Netflix has officially announced that the fifth and final season of The Witcher will premiere this year. In a recent blog post highlighting major releases, the streaming giant confirmed the return of the beloved series, although the exact premiere date remains unannounced.
Back in April 2024, Netflix revealed plans to conclude The Witcher with this fifth season, making the impending farewell unsurprising to fans. Alongside the announcement, they released a captivating logline for the upcoming season.
"The time of the end is nigh: Dark forces are aligning all across the Continent with villainous designs on Ciri. Even if Geralt and Yennefer can save their daughter and fulfill their last wish of reuniting as a family, they’ll have to face obstacles--and enemies--the likes of which they've never faced before."
The Witcher first debuted on Netflix in 2019, with subsequent seasons arriving in 2021, 2023, and 2024, with Seasons 4 and 5 filming back-to-back.
Initially starring Henry Cavill as Geralt in Seasons 1 to 3, the role has transitioned to Liam Hemsworth for Season 4. Hemsworth will reprise his role in Season 5, joined by Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan as Yennefer and Ciri, respectively.
On the gaming front, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains the latest entry in the game series, released in 2015. Meanwhile, The Witcher 4 is currently in development, yet to receive a release date.
