In 2025, Microsoft successfully transitioned top Xbox franchises to Sony's PlayStation 5, with Forza Horizon 5 emerging as the standout success. Released four years after its initial launch, this racing title reportedly surpassed sales of the next four Xbox ports combined.
Alinea Analytics has released data highlighting that Forza Horizon 5 topped the sales charts with an impressive 5.1 million copies sold on PS5. Following it was Gears of War Reloaded with just 572,000 copies, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at 491,000, Flight Simulator with 166,000, and Senua's Saga Hellblade 2 trailing with 50,000 copies. The only PS5 exclusive to outpace Forza Horizon 5 was Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which achieved 5.2 million sales in 2025.
Furthermore, Alinea highlighted that Forza Horizon 5 generated approximately $300 million in sales from PS5 alone. With Sony taking its usual 30% cut, Microsoft retained around $210 million, indicating a strong demand from PlayStation 5 users.
Earlier in September, Microsoft announced Forza Horizon 6, the first in the series set in Japan. However, it will not be available on PS5 at launch, as it will be exclusive to Xbox Series X|S and PC. Alinea's report suggests that delaying a PS5 release may be detrimental, considering the success of its predecessor. It appears that Forza Horizon 6 is poised to replicate this success upon its eventual release on PlayStation.
While no specific launch date for Forza Horizon 6 has been disclosed, it is set to arrive later this year.
