Veteran striker Bradley Grobler was the star of the show as he was involved in three goals, leading Sekhukhune United to a dominant 3-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.
Grobler scored two goals, one in each half, and also provided an assist for Thabang Monare. This marked Chiefs’ first loss of the season and the first time they have conceded a goal.
Grobler’s Historic Performance
With this win, Sekhukhune has reclaimed the top spot in the Betway Premiership from Mamelodi Sundowns, accumulating 16 points from six matches, two points clear of Sundowns, who will face Marumo Gallants on Wednesday.
Grobler’s two goals against Chiefs have now brought his total to 12 goals in 25 matches against the Soweto giants, the highest he has scored against any team in his PSL career. His previous best was against Royal AM, where he netted 11 goals in 21 matches.
Sekhukhune’s strong defensive performance, having only allowed two goals all season, combined with Grobler’s clinical finishing, has positioned them as serious title contenders.
Both teams entered the match with unbeaten records for the 2025/26 season, driven to secure a victory to maintain their winning streak.
Grobler Strikes Early
Sekhukhune’s Grobler capitalized on a defensive error by Aden McCarthy and Paseko Mako just four minutes into the match. Following a cross from Tsepo Matsimbi, Grobler netted to give Sekhukhune an early lead at 1-0.
Chiefs quickly equalized, with Lilepo making a brilliant run in the 12th minute that led to a cross for new signing Flavio Da Silva, who scored his second goal in as many matches.
The first half saw an engaging contest, with chances created by both sides. Chiefs nearly took the lead with a powerful strike from Reeve Frosler in the 31st minute, ending the half at 1-1.
Sekhukhune Seals the Victory
Grobler maintained his impressive form by scoring his second goal in the 49th minute with a stunning strike, putting Sekhukhune up 2-1.
Just six minutes later, Sekhukhune extended their lead to 3-1 as Thabang Monare scored from a headed pass by Grobler.
As the game progressed, Chiefs attempted to regain control, but Sekhukhune’s defense held firm. A strike from substitute Thabo Cele in the 80th minute was blocked by the goalkeeper.
With this victory, Sekhukhune has now secured wins against both Soweto giants early in the season, following their previous triumph over Orlando Pirates.
