Everton star Jack Grealish may be returning to parent club Manchester City sooner than anticipated.
After joining the Toffees on a loan deal for the 2025-26 season, Grealish started strong, earning the Premier League Player of the Month for August with four assists. However, his performance has since dwindled, with only two goals in 17 appearances, putting his stay at Hill Dickinson Stadium in jeopardy.
Returning faces may bolster David Moyes' Everton side
With Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye returning from the Africa Cup of Nations victorious, David Moyes’ squad is looking to be in a solid position for Monday’s home match against Leeds. Despite Jarrad Braithwaite nearing a return, reports indicate that Grealish may be suffering from a stress fracture in his foot, which could be a serious setback.
If confirmed, the injury could sideline Grealish for several months, potentially leaving him unavailable to contribute to Everton's campaign or return in time before the end of his loan agreement.
The club has the option to purchase Grealish for £50 million, yet the team’s plans may pivot significantly depending on the diagnosis of his injury.
Currently sitting in 10th place, Everton is still eyeing a push for European competition, but Grealish's injury, alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s absence, creates challenges for a side already struggling offensively.
This injury has considerable implications for Grealish's career as well. After a promising start to the season, fans were eager to see him included in the England squad by manager Thomas Tuchel, but it appears injuries may rob him of that opportunity.
Moreover, he was eyeing the upcoming March internationals as a chance to showcase his capabilities. Unfortunately, his injury could mean he misses out on a World Cup spot entirely.
