Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has highlighted the importance of the deep familiarity Chelsea's ownership has with Liam Rosenior, which could play a significant role in his success at the club.
Rosenior, previously the manager at Hull City, recently transitioned from Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg, stepping in as Enzo Maresca's successor.
He is set to make his managerial debut for Chelsea when the team faces Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup third round this Saturday evening.
Jesse Marsch: Chelsea Will Already Know All About Liam Rosenior
Marsch, who is now managing Canada, is well aware of the challenges posed by changing clubs within a shared ownership structure. His experience comes from managing Red Bull's teams in New York, Salzburg, and Leipzig.
Marsch expressed to ESPN, "There are so many inefficiencies in football. The hire and fire culture prevalent in most clubs, combined with the lack of a long-term vision, complicates matters—particularly within a multi-club system."
He emphasized the crucial nature of a candidate’s capability to cope with the intense scrutiny that Premier League managers face, noting that Chelsea's multi-club model gives them a distinctive advantage in assessing potential hires directly.
Marsch stated, "The pressures from the media and fans are immense. If I were a sporting director, understanding how a coach handles that stress would be vital to my confidence in their appointment."
He continued, "Managers' reactions to pressures and responsibility can be unpredictable, but existing knowledge about them can provide significant reassurance."
As Rosenior gears up for his debut in the FA Cup, he will later take Chelsea into their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal on Wednesday, followed by a Premier League clash against Brentford.
