Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia has reiterated that Ernst Middendorp completed his short-term contract with the club, successfully fulfilling the mandate he was given as technical director.
Middendorp joined City at the start of the current season with a clear brief to stabilize and strengthen the club’s technical structures.
However, with the arrival of head coach Gavin Hunt, there were indications that the two experienced football figures — both known for their strong personalities — might not easily see eye to eye.
Upon his departure, Middendorp released a statement on social media expressing his dissatisfaction with the manner in which his exit was handled.
Kadodia, however, praised the veteran coach’s contribution, saying:
“We brought Ernst in with a clear, short-term objective to bring stability and expertise to our football structures during a period of transition. He has fulfilled that mandate with professionalism and integrity, and we thank him for his valuable service. We part on excellent terms and wish him the very best for the future.”
The existing technical and administrative teams will continue to oversee football operations at the club.
This transition comes at a time of positive momentum for Durban City, who currently occupy fourth position in the Betway Premiership and have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout — marking an impressive start to the campaign.
“The foundation of the club is strong, and this change in no way hinders our progress or ambitions,” added Kadodia. “Our full focus is on supporting the team and management as we build on our excellent start to the season. The future is bright for Durban City FC.”
After the international break, City will resume their league campaign with a short trip to face AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (15:30).
