Kaizer Chiefs Confirm Nabi's Absence in Angola
Coach’s Absence and Potential Exit
Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed that head coach Nasreddine Nabi is not participating with the team in Angola for the initial leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round match against Kabuscorp on Saturday.
The club issued a statement revealing that Nabi's absence stems from ongoing "internal" discussions, implying a potential departure from the club.
While specific reasons were not disclosed, reports indicate that Nabi might be leaving the Soweto Giants due to a personal matter involving his wife, who was involved in a car accident prior to the start of the season.
Additionally, there are allegations suggesting that Nabi does not hold the necessary CAF Pro License required to coach in CAF club competitions. The club has refrained from commenting on these claims, opting not to share further details at this moment.
“Kaizer Chiefs confirms that head coach Nasreddine Nabi is currently not with the team as discussions between the Club and the Coach remain ongoing,” the club stated.
“The matter is internal in nature and is being addressed through the appropriate processes. The club remains focused on ensuring stability and continuity for the players and supporters during this period. As this is an internal matter, no further details will be shared at this stage.”
“We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our supporters and the broader football community. Any updates will be communicated through official club channels when appropriate.”
Nabi’s Tenure at Chiefs
Nabi took the helm at the start of the previous season and successfully guided the team to their first trophy in ten years by clinching the Nedbank Cup final against their rivals, Orlando Pirates.
This triumph also ensured their qualification for the Confederation Cup. Throughout his tenure at the club, Nabi’s coaching record consists of 12 wins, 14 losses, and 9 draws from 35 matches.
