In a dramatic turn of events, rising rapper Kay Flock finds himself grappling with a daunting 30-year prison sentence. The 22-year-old artist isn't backing down and is currently appealing his substantial sentence stemming from a series of serious convictions.
His attorney, Michael T. Ashley, expressed confidence that an appeal was forthcoming. According to documents obtained by Complex, Ashley argues that Flock deserves the statutory minimum of 10 years or a chance to engage in a comprehensive 11-point plan aimed at rehabilitation.
Should the latter be accepted, Flock would be required to relocate to Los Angeles, earn his GED, maintain sobriety, and actively condemn violence on social media. However, this rehabilitation route seems unlikely to materialize based on the severity of his convictions.
Prosecutors sought an even harsher punishment, advocating for a staggering 50 years. Leading the push was Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael R. Herman, who argued that this extended sentence was necessary due to the egregious nature of Flock's conduct, highlighting the significant harm inflicted on his community.
What Was Kay Flock Convicted Of?
Flock's convictions are serious, including racketeering conspiracy, use of a firearm resulting in death, attempted murder, and assault charges—all related to four separate shootings between 2020 and 2021. As a prominent figure in the Sev Side/DOA gang, the judge acknowledged that Flock didn't pull the trigger but emphasized his leadership role necessitated accountability.
Judge Lewis Liman made it clear that while Flock was not the shooter, his status as a leader meant he had to face the consequences of his association with violent actions.
