Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has praised his team’s mental strength and determination after securing a 5-4 win on penalties against Angolan giants Kabuscorp in the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round second leg at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
The match ended 1-1 on aggregate, with Amakhosi scoring a crucial goal at home to level the tie and ultimately advancing to the next round through a penalty shootout.
The win came after a tough away defeat in the first leg, with Chiefs losing 1-0 in Angola last Saturday. However, the team showed great resilience and determination to progress to the next stage.
“It was a good performance overall, and I believe that we deserve to win, and even to finish the game early because we kept possession and we had many opportunities to score and kill the game,” Kaze said on SABC Sport after the match.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t use our chances and went to the penalties, but managed to win.
“Before the game, we spoke about being mentally strong until the game ends, and this success is for the players because they did everything they could on the pitch, and we’re happy to go on to the next stage.”
With this win, Amakhosi have shown that they are a force to be reckoned with in the competition.
Amakhosi will now focus on their upcoming Betway Premiership match against AmaZulu at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
