Kaizer Chiefs Coach Cedric Kaze Provides Positive Update on Ighodaro
Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has shared encouraging news regarding the injury status of newly signed striker Etiosa Ighodaro, who is still awaiting his debut for Amakhosi.
Following their recent victory against Kabuscorp in the second leg of the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup, Kaze emphasized that the medical team has made positive promises regarding Ighodaro’s recovery.
“Ighodaro has been injured, but the medical department promised us good things,” Kaze stated.
“He started this week training with all players and did not experience any contact during training. However, we hope that after the international break, he will be ready to play.”
This statement from the Chiefs coach comes as a welcome reassurance to fans eager to see Ighodaro in action.
As one of the few new strikers yet to play for Amakhosi, Ighodaro has been sidelined while teammates Flavio Silva and Khanyisa Mayo have already made significant contributions, with Mayo scoring and Silva netting twice.
Nevertheless, Kaze's optimism is somewhat tempered by concerns regarding the registration status of the new signings for the CAF competition.
When questioned about the participation of Mayo, Lebohang Maboe, and Ighodaro in the upcoming CAF match, Kaze confirmed that they would be unavailable as they have not yet been registered.
“If I’m not mistaken, I will say that Mayo will not play until the group stage, and even Ighodaro and Maboe as well,” he added.
“But I have no doubt the other players, such as Velebayi, Paseko Mako, Thabiso Monyane, and Siphesihle Ndlovu, who have been recovering from injuries, along with Ethan Chislet, will surely be available in the next round.”
Chiefs are set to face the winner of the matchup between DR Congo’s AS Simba and Djabel from Comoros in the second preliminary round.
The Congolese team secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg, and the upcoming match will determine who advances to the group stage.
